The beginnings…
Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I remember my dad playing his violin in the living room, watching my mom head off to piano lessons, and sitting at the piano making music with my grandma.
I started my piano journey at age 4 and loved it from the beginning. I was drawn to music making in ways that’s hard to explain. Other activities - swimming, drawing, gymnastics, dancing, and more - came and went but piano was the one constant.
It brought so much room for creativity, originality, confidence, and connecting with others.
I would not be where I am today if it weren’t for my supportive family. My family greatly appreciated classical music, 91.5 FM KUSC, was always on in the house.
Every recital I performed in was a special affair - my parents always came, video camera at the ready, with me in a brand-new dress (potentially my favorite part). My mom came to every lesson with me, taking copious notes, then practicing with me and going over every detail until my next lesson.

Why I Teach
One of the most rewarding aspects of music for me is the ability to connect with others. Never has this been so apparent as the times I traveled the world for music. I had my first international performance at age 8, in Cambridge, England. I’ve since toured through Vienna, Bratislava, Prague, China, Italy, France, and most recently Norway.
I interacted with so many people of other cultures but through music, we felt as if we had no differences at all.
Connecting with others through music also manifested in the community for me. From early on, I took part in organized group efforts to give monthly recitals at senior centers, retirement homes, and hospitals. More recently, visiting elementary schools and teaching introductory music to eager children, I saw reflected in their excitement the child I had once been. These moments helped me realize how deep of an impact I could have on other people.
My mission is to touch as many people as possible - to be a positive influence on someone’s life and make a difference. Through communicating with people using music, reaching out through my playing, and teaching the next generation of music lovers, this is where I make the biggest impact - where I want my legacy.
