When I first dabbled with music…
Growing up, I remember begging my mom to put me in piano lessons.
I saw the pianists playing in the mall or in restaurants and thought it was so cool. So when I was six years old, she signed me up and I absolutely loved it! Not long after I started taking lessons, my older brother and younger sister started taking lessons also and we quickly became known as “The Musical Family.”
My brother and I were especially passionate about music and we played in many weddings, anniversaries, and other church events: him on violin and me on flute or piano.
Although we loved it, there were difficult moments when my parents couldn't keep all three of us in piano lessons but my piano teacher saw how much we all loved music and made it work for us.
Through their love of us and seeing the importance of music in our lives, it has inspired me to continue to be generous and understanding as I became a piano teacher.
How I became a professional
In college, I studied with some great teachers including Ana Gliadkovskaya and Alison Edwards, head of Keyboard Pedagogy at CSUF. I had the privilege of participating in master classes with world-class concert pianists such as Rufus Choi, Martha Argerich, as well as the popular piano duo, Anderson and Roe, all these experiences propelled my musicality and technique to the next level.
While in school, I also taught preschool music classes, private piano, voice and flute lessons and became assistant choir director and accompanist at St. Kilian Catholic Church.
In 2018, I graduated from Cal State University of Fullerton with a Bachelor of Arts in Piano Pedagogy and became an Elementary Music Teacher at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic School in Long Beach where I taught children from pre-K to 8th Grade.
