How I got started with music...
My adventure in the world of music began when my parents’ friends gave us a keyboard and I started playing around with it - hitting random notes, pressing all the buttons, whatever you can imagine.
As I listened to the demo pieces from the keyboard, I came upon “Für Elise” - at that moment, I wanted to learn how to play piano.
I was already ten years old (some of my friends had already been playing piano since they were five!) and you might be thinking, “Isn’t it too late to start learning piano at the age of ten?”
You might be right.
Maybe I was not good yet at playing piano, but I have always loved listening to classical music (I remember numerous occasions where I refused to play Guitar Hero when offered). My first teacher showed me so many awesome pieces, and I’m eternally grateful for her challenging me with strange études, scales, theory, etc... and then “spoiling” me with all the pieces that I specifically wanted to learn.
After six years of playing piano, I loved music so much that I couldn’t imagine doing anything else in my professional career.
Taking it Further!
Currently, I am wrapping up my undergraduate studies as a piano performance major at CSU Long Beach!
I am also an active member of the collegiate chapter of the California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT), and I had the privilege of attending and giving presentations at state and national conferences.
I’m honored to be a part of the FreshStart family, and I look forward to making music with my students!
