I was blessed with several outstanding music teachers from the inception of my study of music and the guitar. All of my instructors took a personal interest in my music development and progress.
One of my later instructors, during the advanced stage of my development, had a simple philosophy to which I have adhered to the present day, that is, "an effective teacher is able to take complex concepts and distill them into simple, easy-to-understand directions, therefore, making the pursuit of music both easy and fun". My teaching experience has ranged from the pre-grammar school level to college music majors and professional performance. As I retrospectively evaluate my lifetime in music from it's incipient stages until the present, I am continually thankful for the wonderful opportunities and the excellent and insightful teachers which helped shape my approach to life and music. My passion has always been the desire to help students develop the proper and correct techniques in playing and performance as well as a proper and clear understanding of the "nuts and bolts" of how and why music functions as it does, I.e., music theory. |
