Mr. Devan
When I was 12 years old my parents wanted me to start a new hobby: music.
They made me use my dad's huge juggernaut guitar and had me start taking guitar lessons. When I first started, I despised music and only wanted to do my one passion in life at the time: video games.
However, my dislike changed when I switched to a new teacher. This teacher, whether he knew it or not, changed the path of my life.
He helped me work on music that I loved (video game music) while still helping me grow in music fundamentals and technique. He learned how to teach me and made me grow a passion for music. Without this teacher, I would have never found music as a passion.
When I teach, I try to get my students to play music that they enjoy as soon as possible. This is because my goal with teaching music is to get my students to love it.
Learning an instrument is hard and unnatural in the beginning, but with some technical exercises and the combination of working on something you enjoy, it doesn’t seem as hard.

As a music educator, I was an embedded tutor for both high and low level music theory courses and guitar classes at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut for several years.
Outside of tutoring, I have been teaching classical guitar and cello since 2021. I have gotten an Associates in music at Mt. San Antonio College and am working towards getting a Bachelor's Degree in Performance at Bob Cole Conservatory of music. I believe music is the best form of expression for me. It’s like a speech without words but can be understood by all languages. I love exploring playing technique, finding and developing practice strategies, and playing in ensembles. Nothing can beat the feeling of being part of the wave of sound created by a symphony. |
