The beginnings…

Hello! My name is Tyler Wolsten, and I have been teaching for over 15 years.

I get asked a lot why I chose this field, and my go-to response is about passion. I knew early on that I loved music, and one memory sticks out to me as the catalyst for my musical journey.

When I was about 8 years old, I used to borrow my mom’s Walkman and listen to Stevie Wonder’s greatest hits.

I remember one night grabbing it before dinner and singing my heart out in my room with my headphones on.

​Little did I know, my whole family was watching me from a crack in the door, and after I was done, they showered me with praise, saying they had no idea I could sing like that.

​And that memory alone instilled so much passion, confidence, and love for music.

Why I Do What I Do

I received my master’s in music from CSUF, where I had the pleasure of being a mainstage lead in all 4 of our Opera productions. I also made my LA and Berlin debuts and have graced the stage with Vittorio Grigollo.

I was the youngest professor at both Vanguard University and Chapman University at the time of hire, which fills me with great pride. All that to say, I have a lot of experience singing with and teaching very talented individuals, which I am eternally grateful for.

All this experience in performance and teaching though leaves me with a question of where do I go from here? Why do I teach?

And the simple answer is that I love helping others.

Music is just a medium, a conduit that allows me to instill invaluable assets in students.

​My passion for music alone isn’t enough because I want to do the best I can for others with the time I have here.

Outside Music

What do I do for fun outside of music, you might be asking yourself?

​Well, I love to hike with my dog and my wife. I love going to the movies and watching anything new I can.

I’m also a diehard Trailblazers fan as I’m from Oregon, but I guess the Lakers aren’t half bad.

And like every other SoCal resident, I love going to the beach.
